Mira

Mira was one of two daughters born to Fortune and Dinah. She was born on December 19, 1788, and would have become free on her 24th birthday. Mira was nine or ten years old when her father died.

It is not known what happened to Mira after Fortune died in 1798. She does not appear to have been in the Porter household in 1800; the census data for that year records only two African Americans, probably Dinah and a young man named Luke, who appear in Porter's estate inventory taken in 1804.

Connecticut legislation prevented the sale of slaves outside of the state after 1788; if the Porters sold Mira, she would most likely have remained in Connecticut.
