Isaac Newton

Cuff Capeny, a free African American living in Waterbury, wrote his will in 1777 in which he refers to his “friend Timothy a Negro now living with Isaac Newton of Waterbury.” Very little is known about Isaac Newton, and it is not known how he was related to Miles Newton. He appears on the Waterbury tax lists in 1774 and seems to have been relatively wealthy. He does not appear on the 1790 census of Waterbury.
